English Language Requirements Australia:
All nurses in Australia must be able to demonstrate the
ability to communicate with both patients and staff in written
and spoken english. Both the nursing registration boards in
Australia as well as the immigration department will require an
assessment of your english ability before they will offer a visa
or professional registration. Exemptions do apply for a small
minority of passport holders for example the UK and Ireland.
Most other professionals will need to sit the International
English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Test. For more
information on the IELTS or to find a testing centre near you
please visit http://www.ielts.org/
If you need to sit IELTS, this should be the first things that
you do. In some countries eg Sth Africa, there can be up to a
4-6 month waiting period to sit IELTS. You will need this result
before you can apply for registration as a nurse
as it is part of the application and you need the registration
before you can apply for a job and visa. Therefore, it is
essential that you determine whether you need to sit IELTS and
start right away. Please don't assume that because you speak
good english or even if it is your first language that you will get
exempted from IELTS. A lot depends on your secondary and
tertiary education as well as the nationality of your passport. Most
people are required to sit IELTS Contact one of our
consulting team to discuss your needs in this regard as soon as
possible.
